Earlier, it was a annual tradition of every family to prepare ample quantity of Goda Masala in summers. Each family has its own recipe with subtle differences so much so that the outcome was also different for the same recipe prepared. The proportion of ingredients passed on from generation to generation varied depending on personal or regional preferences but more or less the basic ingredients remain unchanged. Like for example – Some people like Badalphul (Star Anise) while some don’t.
Goda Masala is a quintessential Maharashtrian Spice Mix of aromatic spices, roasted and ground together. Literary Goda is derived from the word ‘Goad’, which means sweet. Though not exactly the taste of the masala, it implied that this blended mix of various spices doesn’t contain chilly powder which will make it pungent.
